Musical Director: Kathy White Batavia Players will hold special early auditions for Annie and the six orphan roles in our upcoming production of Annie at Main St. 56 Theater. These auditions are for Annie and the six orphans only. Auditions for the remaining roles in the production will be announced separately. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
ANNIE
An optimistic, spirited, and determined 11-year-old who has learned to be tough while still remaining warm and caring. Annie is a natural leader among the orphans and dreams of finding the parents she believes are still out there. This is a demanding principal role requiring a confident actor with strong singing ability, stage presence, and the ability to show both Annie's toughness and vulnerability.
MOLLY
The youngest of the orphans. Molly is sweet, vulnerable, energetic, and especially attached to Annie, who often takes on a motherly role with her. This performer should be expressive and comfortable showing both Molly's softer side and her mischievous personality.
KATE
The next-youngest of the orphans. Kate is playful, spirited, and very much part of the close-knit group of girls. This role calls for an expressive performer who can bring an individual personality to the ensemble and work well within the fast-moving group scenes.
TESSIE
The most emotional and easily worried of the orphans, Tessie is known for her frequent cries of “Oh my goodness!” She brings plenty of personality and comic energy to the group and needs a performer who can make strong, expressive character choices.
PEPPER
The toughest and most confrontational of the orphans. Pepper is bold, scrappy, outspoken, and not afraid to challenge the other girls. Beneath that toughness, she is still part of the orphanage family. This role suits a performer with confidence, energy, and a strong character presence.
JULY
The quietest of the orphans, but certainly not without strength. July tends to be more thoughtful and compassionate than some of the other girls and is willing to stand up for the younger orphans when needed. This role needs a performer who can create a distinct character without relying on being the loudest person onstage.
DUFFY
One of the oldest and biggest of the orphans. Duffy is experienced in the rough-and-tumble world of the orphanage and brings an older, confident presence to the group. This performer should have strong ensemble instincts and be able to develop a clear individual personality within the group.
ANNIE
