One Act Play Festival

Directed by Jessica Brandt, Samantha Ploetz & Tess Uline

The Batavia Players are holding auditions for our upcoming One Act Play Festival, featuring three short plays:

• The Angel Intrudes by Floyd Dell
• St. Valentine’s Day by Annie Elliot
• Sweet & Twenty by Floyd Dell

These plays explore love, wit, humor, and human connection through sharp dialogue and strong character work.

What to Prepare

• Sides and monologues will be provided (linked here)
• No memorization required
• Auditions will consist of readings from the scripts

This festival is ideal for:

• Actors looking to jump back onstage
• Performers interested in strong text-based work
• Newcomers to Batavia Players
• Actors wanting a shorter rehearsal commitment

• Roles available for a range of ages and experience levels
• Actors may be cast in one or more of the one-act plays
• Each play will rehearse independently
• Each director has provided notes which we recommend you read prior to auditioning (linked here)

Character Descriptions

The Angel Intrudes by Floyd Dell
The Police Officer

• Gender: Any
• Age Range: Any
• Description: Inquisitive and cautious. Simply trying to keep the city safe.

The Angel

• Gender: Male
• Age Range: 20s-30s
• Description: Curious by nature. Sent as Jimmy’s guardian angel, but saves someone else in the process.​

Jimmy

• Gender: Male
• Age Range: Around 40
• Description: Sure of himself and a bit of a jerk about it. His feelings for Annabelle shouldn’t appear genuine until he is actually concerned about losing her.​

Annabelle

• Gender: Female
• Age Range: Late teens to early 20s
• Description: Emotional and sweet. Thinks she loves Jimmy, but should immediately be enamored of the Angel.

St. Valentine’s Day by Annie Elliot
Elinor

• Gender: Female
• ​Age: Mid–late 30s
• Description: Somewhat cynical about Valentine’s Day, and feels incredibly too old for Letty’s shenanigans.

Letty

• Gender: Female
• Age: Approximately 17–20
• Description: Naive, and constantly looking for a sweet treat.

Sweet & Twenty by Floyd Dell
Helen

• Gender: Female
• Age Range: 20s-30
• Description: A Bridgerton heroine with a Hallmark heart. She is clever, quick, playful, emotionally fluent but allergic to being trapped. She sparkles, she teases, she leads… and she feels everything deeply, even when pretending not to.

George

• Gender: Male
• Age Range: 20s-30s
• Description: Golden-retriever energy with no emotional filter. He is earnest, awkward, poetic, and devastatingly sincere. He is the kind of man who doesn’t mean to fall in love, but once he does, he’s all in!
