Character descriptions:
- Leontes (mid-30s to early 40s): The King of Sicilia. A jealous and impulsive ruler whose unfounded suspicions cause tragic consequences.
- Hermione (early to mid-30s): The Queen of Sicilia. Leontes’ wife, known for her grace, dignity, and resilience in the face of betrayal.
- Perdita (16): The daughter of Leontes and Hermione, abandoned as a baby and raised by a shepherd. She embodies innocence and hope.
- Polixenes (mid-30s to early 40s): The King of Bohemia and Leontes’ childhood friend. His presence in Sicilia incites Leontes’ jealousy.
- Camillo (40s to 50s): A wise and loyal Sicilian lord who defies Leontes to protect Polixenes.
- Paulina (40s): A noblewoman of Sicilia and staunch defender of Hermione. She is bold, intelligent, and unafraid to challenge authority.
- Antigonus (50s): Paulina’s husband, a Sicilian lord loyal to the crown. Tasked with abandoning Perdita, his story ends tragically.
- Florizel (early 20s): Polixenes’ son and the Prince of Bohemia. Romantic and determined, he falls in love with Perdita.
- Autolycus (30s to 40s): A roguish peddler and trickster who provides comic relief and a touch of mischief.
- The Shepherd (60s to 70s): A kind-hearted old man who discovers and raises Perdita as his own daughter.
- The Clown (Shepherd’s Son) (late teens to early 20s): The Shepherd’s naïve and bumbling son, often adding humor to the rustic scenes.
- Mamillius (7 to 10): The young son of Leontes and Hermione. His untimely death deepens the tragedy of the play’s first half.
- Time (ageless): A personified character who acts as a chorus, bridging the 16-year gap between the play’s two halves.
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:
Shakespeare smashes head on into "The Met Gala".... highlighting dance, costuming and music, this well known and much loved Shakespeare romance will be filled with surprises and a modern day twist with a ton of glam. Prepare to be amazed!
Shakespeare's tale about love, jealousy and redemption, that is brought to life in a new, contemporary way allowing the amazing characters to be recognizable in today's society. Featuring some of today's top hits and favorite dance club anthems, this is one production that is sure to be incredible!
Please be prepared to read from the script for a number of parts. Scripts will be available 90 minutes prior for perusal.
There are no sides to prepare.
Some cast members will be required to dance. Dance ability to be determined at auditions but dance ability is not necessary for being cast.
